What to Bring for an Affidavit for Ecclesiastical Permission to Marry
When preparing an affidavit for ecclesiastical permission to marry, please bring the documents listed below. Providing all required materials in advance will help the process move smoothly and avoid delays.
Required Documents
- Baptismal Certificate or official transcript
- Letter of Good Standing, if you are not a steward of Saint George
- Certificate of Freedom to Marry, if you entered the Metropolis of San Francisco after age 16
If You Have Been Previously Married
If you were previously married, additional documentation is required depending on how the marriage ended.
- If your spouse is deceased: please provide a certified copy of the death certificate.
- If the marriage ended in divorce: please provide your civil divorce papers and the original Ecclesiastical Divorce Decree. Photocopies of the ecclesiastical decree cannot be accepted.
If You Are Presently Civilly Married
- Please provide your civil marriage license.
